Inmate Art Exhibition at Fremont Center for the Arts Showcases Creativity Behind Bars

Annual 'Art in Isolation: Creating Space' Exhibit Features Works from ADX Florence Inmates

The Fremont Center for the Arts in Cañon City, Colorado, is currently hosting its eighth annual 'Art in Isolation: Creating Space' exhibition, running from August 1 through August 29, 2025.

This unique showcase features artwork crafted by inmates from the Administrative Maximum Penitentiary (ADX) in Florence, commonly known as Supermax.

Each piece reflects the artists' personal journeys to find mental and emotional space for creativity within the confines of incarceration.

Through their work, these individuals demonstrate the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of artistic expression.

All displayed artworks are available for purchase, with proceeds contributing to the inmates' restitution payments.

Due to security protocols, the participating artists' names remain confidential.

The exhibition aims to spark reflection on the universal desire for self-expression and underscores the importance of providing creative outlets within correctional facilities.

In conjunction with the exhibition, a live presentation titled 'Creating Space: Art, Healing, and Humanity Behind Bars' is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Fremont Center for the Arts.

This event will feature insights from the dedicated team behind the prison art program, highlighting their efforts to foster creativity and healing among incarcerated individuals.

Admission to both the exhibition and the live presentation is free, offering the community an opportunity to engage with and support the artistic endeavors of those within the prison system.

For more information, visit the Fremont Center for the Arts at 523 Main Street, Cañon City, CO 81212.

Operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Contact the center at 719-275-2790 for further details.
